Why a job site got paused
Why Hunter gives a job site a week off after it blocks five hunts in a row, and how to try it again sooner.
If a job site blocks Hunter in 5 hunts in a row, Hunter gives it a week off and then tries again on its own. If it’s still blocking, it gets another week. Your hunt summary mentions it, and Settings > Search shows the site as paused with a Try next hunt button.
Why do sites block Hunter?
Some job boards are strict about automated visits, even polite, slow ones to public pages. Indeed has been the usual suspect lately. Rather than keep knocking on a door that won’t open, and waste your hunt time, Hunter takes the hint. Even the most enthusiastic dog eventually stops scratching at the door.
How do I see which sites are paused?
Open Settings > Search and look under Sources. A paused site shows as, for example, Indeed (paused until Nov 5). Hover it for the reason.
How do I try a paused site sooner?
Click Try next hunt next to the paused site. Hunter includes it in the next hunt. If that works, great. If it’s blocked again, the pause starts over.
Does this affect applying?
No. Pausing only affects searching for new jobs on that site. Jobs Hunter already found stay in New matches, and you can still apply to them. That includes Indeed Apply and LinkedIn Easy Apply, where you sign in yourself (see Can Hunter apply to LinkedIn Easy Apply jobs?).
What about slow sites or no internet?
Those don’t count. If a site is slow, or your computer just woke up without internet, Hunter quietly tries again later instead of counting it as a block.
Where else can I find jobs?
Add companies you like to the Watch list in Settings > Search. Hunter checks their career pages on every hunt. That’s often where the best jobs show up first. See Hunt profiles and schedules and Run your first hunt.
Questions people ask
Will I miss jobs while a site is paused?
Usually not many. Most jobs are posted on company career sites, which Hunter keeps checking. The paused site is tried again on its own after a week.
Can I stop a site from being searched for good?
Yes. Untick it under Sources in Settings > Search.
