Understanding match scores
How Hunter scores each job against your experience, what the review and automatic levels mean, and how must-haves and deal-breakers work.
Hunter gives every job a match score from 0 to 100 based on how well the posting fits your experience bank and preferences. Each job page shows the strengths and gaps behind the score. Two levels in Settings > Matching decide what happens next: jobs at 85 and up can be submitted automatically, and jobs at 60 and up go to your Review queue.
What do the levels do?
| Score | What happens |
|---|---|
| At or above Submit automatically at (85) | Hunter can apply on its own, if practice mode is off and Automatic submit is on |
| At or above Send to review at (60) | Hunter fills in the application and waits in the Review queue for you |
| Below the review level | Skipped, but still listed in New matches with a filter |
The review level has to be lower than the automatic level. Hunter warns you if it isn’t.
How do I tune the scores?
In Settings > Matching:
- Must-haves raise the score when a job has them, for example “Salesforce” or “B2B SaaS”.
- Deal-breakers skip a job no matter its score, for example “Commission only”.
- Raise or lower the two levels until the Review queue holds the jobs you’d actually apply to.
In Settings > Search, set a Salary floor and Companies to avoid.

Why does a strong match have gaps?
Because job postings ask for everything and the kitchen sink. A 78 with one gap (“no Workday experience”) may still be well worth a shot. Read the gaps as “things to address in the interview”, not “reasons to give up”.
What are company facts?
Hunter can look up a company’s annual revenue, employee count and Glassdoor rating, using your AI plan’s web search. That takes about 10 to 20 seconds per company and counts toward your plan. Under Look up automatically for, choose Jobs that reach my Review queue (the default), All jobs worth a look, or Only when I click Look up. Facts are refreshed after 90 days.
Does a better experience bank help?
Yes, a lot. Scores only know what’s in the bank, so adding results and numbers lifts them. See Build your experience bank.
Questions people ask
Why is a job I love scored low?
The score compares the posting with your experience bank. If the bank is missing something the job asks for, add it. The strengths and gaps on the job page tell you what Hunter saw.
Where did skipped jobs go?
They're still in New matches. Use the "Below review level" filter to see them.
