Kibble tracks two deductions many freelancers miss. Mileage: log each business trip on the Mileage tab of Expenses, and Kibble applies the IRS standard rate, 72.5 cents a mile for 2026. Home office: on the Taxes screen, enter your office’s square footage for the simplified method, worth up to $1,500 (300 square feet). Both reduce the profit your tax estimate is based on.

How do I log a trip?

  1. Open Expenses on the Business side and go to the Mileage tab.
  2. Click + Add trip.
  3. Say where you went, which client it was for, and the miles. Tick Round trip to double them.
  4. Save. Driving the same route again? Pick a past trip to fill it in.

The IRS wants to know where you went and why, so Kibble asks. Your future self, facing an audit letter, will be grateful.

What if the rate changes?

Set the rate in Settings > Business. New trips use the new rate. Trips you already logged keep the rate they were saved with, which is how the IRS expects it.

How does the home office deduction work?

The simplified method is $5 per square foot of space used regularly and only for business, up to 300 square feet. That’s a maximum of $1,500 a year. On Taxes, find Home office and enter your square footage. It goes on Schedule C line 30 in Kibble’s reports.

Where do these show up?

  • Dashboard and Taxes: profit is calculated after mileage and home office, so your quarterly tax estimate is more realistic.
  • Reports: business expenses by Schedule C line.
  • Year-end ZIP: the full mileage log for your accountant (see 1099s and the year-end ZIP).

A note on rules

Tax rules have fine print, like what counts as a “regular and exclusive” office, or which trips qualify. Kibble does the math and keeps the records. Your accountant makes the calls. We’re a dog, not a CPA.
