The tray icon and starting with Windows
Why Fetch, Hunter and Kibble keep running near the clock, how to quit them for real, and how to choose whether they start with Windows.
When you close a Soggy Dog app’s window, the app keeps running as a small icon in the tray, the row of icons next to the clock. That’s how Fetch notices calls, Hunter runs scheduled hunts, and Kibble reminds you about bills. To close an app completely, right-click its tray icon and choose Quit.
What does each app do from the tray?
- Fetch watches for Zoom, Google Meet, Teams and Slack calls and offers to record. Right-click for Fetch (start recording), Settings or Quit.
- Hunter runs your scheduled hunts. Right-click for Open Hunter, Hunt now or Quit Hunter.
- Kibble pops up when a bill is due or a category runs out. Right-click for Sync now, Check email, Ask Kibble, Settings or Quit.
Think of it as the dog napping by the door. It’s not in the way, but it hears the doorbell.
How do I stop an app from starting with Windows?
Open the app’s Settings > General and untick the start-up option:
- Fetch: Start Fetch when Windows starts
- Hunter: Start Hunter when Windows starts (off unless you turn it on)
- Kibble: Start Kibble with Windows (in the tray)
You can also manage all three from Windows’ Task Manager > Startup apps.
How do I make closing the window quit the app?
In Settings > General, untick the option that keeps the app in the tray when you close the window. Just know what you give up:
- Fetch won’t notice calls until you open it again.
- Hunter’s scheduled hunts only run while it’s open. See Hunt profiles and schedules.
- Kibble’s bill and overspending pop-ups wait until next time. See Scheduled bills and reminders.
Can I make the pop-ups quieter?
Yes. Each app has options in Settings > General, such as turning off the soft woof (and using the normal Windows sound) or the dog’s chatty voice in notifications. The dog will understand. Mostly.
Questions people ask
I closed the window. Is the app still running?
Probably, in the tray. That's on purpose, so it can catch calls, run hunts and remind you about bills. Right-click the tray icon and choose Quit to close it completely.
I can't see the tray icon.
Click the small up arrow next to the clock to show hidden icons. You can drag the app's icon onto the taskbar to keep it visible.
